The posters are up. The events are planned. And now, even the participants have arrived – CBS Case Competition 2009 officially kicked off this Sunday. Week nine has become a landmark event in the CBS calendar, and campus is abuzz with activity and excitement.

The secret ingredient for business success

Monday morning Solbjerg Plads was transformed, as the CBS Case Competition organizing committee took up their positions in the lobby. Using free M&Ms as a stimulant, they have since been active inviting students to join in the week-long festivities.

This year’s theme is Seasoning Business: What is the recipe for business success in a tough financial and economic situation? And CBS’ students can attend a whole series of company presentations and workshops, revolving around this theme, all week long.

Amazing Race through Copenhagen

Today’s event was a fitting introduction. As the actual Case Competition participants got a crazy, whirlwind ‘Amazing Race’ style tour of Copenhagen, students at CBS took a tour of world’s financial crisis. This hour long session was given by Niels Bartholdy from Denmark’s National Bank, who also teaches macroeconomics at CBS. The session was aimed at illustrating what actually happened during the financial crisis and its implications.

The event generated a lot of interest (definitely a lot more interest than any ordinary economics lecture), and a multitude of students squeezed into the auditorium, even sitting on the floor. Simona Sawhney, a 3rd year bachelor student at CBS, explained the reason for her great interest:

- It helps to put things into perspective. After all, we have studied about economic crises in macroeconomics, but now it is much more significant because we are actually living in it. I think it was very useful.

Hopefully, the other events lined up for this week will be as useful. To see the calendar of planned events, check out the CBS Case Competition website.
